HARFA: SCREENSHOTS AND TUTORIALS: HLS SCALE

Separations
  • HLS Scale
  • The HSL colour space is also derived from the RGB model. Its basic components are hue (H), lightness (L), and saturation (S). It has the shape of two cones connected through their bases. The hue is expressed by an angle (0-360o) and the lightness changes from zero (black bottom vertex) to one (white top vertex). The saturation at the surface equals one and decreases to zero towards the axes of the cones. The shape of the HLS colour space fully reflects the fact that most of the colours are best perceived under medium illumination. The ability to distinguish between colours decreases both under high and low brightness. The components of the HLS colour space are represented on the figure bellow.
